Women Who Lead & the Power of Community

As we approach International Women’s Day on Saturday 8 March, we’re shining a light on the inspiring conversations happening within MGI’s Women Who Lead Group.

This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, is a call to push forward with meaningful change that’s relevant for EVERYONE across our global community – regardless of gender, role, or background.

What started as a way to highlight our exceptional talent and support the next generation of women in accounting has grown into a positive space for open discussion on topics such as wellbeing, confidence, leadership, and self-development. It’s a place where we can all learn from each other, share experiences, and drive positive change across our firms, in our local communities and the profession – wherever you are located around the world.

In the lead-up to International Women’s Day, we’ll be sharing perspectives from our Core Group Members - their experiences, insights, and what this community means to them. Keep a look out!

Karin Monchak from member firm MGI Assurance in Brazil, is part of the Women Who Lead core group and is also the Executive Committee member representing our Latin America region. Karin recently took time out to talk to us about the value of Women Who Lead.

What does Women Who Lead mean to you?

It’s a space for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and tips among participants, helping everyone's personal and professional development.

Why is it important?

It is about empowerment, about having discussions on relevant topics and everyday challenges, conditions that can be improved in interpersonal relationships, quality of life, mental health, that is, it is a tool that can help raise awareness of the changes necessary for a less stressful and conflicting existence. It can bring together a diversity of perspectives and experiences, which can serve as role models for other professionals, inspiring and mentoring the next generation of leaders.

Why should others get involved?

Because technical knowledge is not the only thing that makes good professionals, a large part of our activities are related to communication and relationships, so developing skills to recognize areas for improvement has a direct impact on personal and professional life, and we can also help others to develop.
