RLT opens new offices in Berlin and extends services

German member's strategy to deepen corporate finance and business consultancy capabiities

At the start of the year Essen headquartered RLT opened a branch office in the German federal capital, Berlin. With this step and consequent on the company being joined by auditor/tax consultant Markus Bauten and investment analyst Jan Seeger, who is certified by the Society of Investment Professionals in Germany, the RLT group sustainably strengthens its know-how in the areas of corporate finance and business consultancy. This is underlined by the launch of RLT Corporate Finance Solutions GmbH of Berlin, which will act independently on the market alongside RLT. Through this addition to our consultancy services we are able to provide specialist provision in-house to address our clients’ needs in an area that is continually gaining importance.

The fact that we are daring to take this step in Berlin may come as a surprise at first glance, but can be explained by our connection with our new partner Markus Bauten, who was employed at our head office in Essen until 2009. Even after he moved for personal reasons, contact with him never ceased and we are convinced that together with Jan Seeger he will successfully contribute the competences developed jointly by them to RLT.

The Berlin consultancy team will strengthen and further develop in particular the following business areas within the RLT group:

• Business check-up
• Business planning
• Business evaluation
• M&A consultancy

Business check-up: This is a new consultancy building block of RLT. It is effectively a check-up of a company, independently of the company age and current company situation. A check-up quickly discloses the weak points of the company’s main fields (if requested also selected fields) and suggests actions to be taken to rectify these deficits.

Business planning: The company division offers our clients professional support in all business planning processes. Our know-how stands for a holistic integration of the planning levels, i.e. from the business model (sector, market, competition) through financial planning levels (profit/loss plan, liquidity plan, balance plan) and extending to special topics covering finance, accounting and fiscal matters. Our consultancy intensity is dependent on our clients’ specifications and extends from plausibility assessments of plans submitted, to support during the drafting of plans and up to full in-house implementation of business planning.

Business evaluation: The evaluation area of the RLT group is considerably strengthened by the longstanding expertise in business evaluation required for various reasons. This includes in particular the area of expert appraisals in accordance with the principles of standard 1 of the IDW [Institute of Public Auditors in Germany] (principles for the implementation of business evaluations), fiscally motivated appraisals in accordance with inheritance tax law as well as evaluations in the event of measures relating to stocks and shares and reorganisations  (e.g. squeeze-out).

M&A consultancy: In respect of a sale or an acquisition we look after small and medium-sized family companies. As experienced M&A consultants in this company segment we create an even balance of power between the buyer and the seller. Additionally, taking on the complete organisation of the process is one of our strengths. As a result our clients are able to fully concentrate on their day-to-day business at all times.

Markus Bauten holds a degree in business administrations and is qualified as tax advisor and auditor. He is partner and Berlin branch manager of RLT Ruhrmann Wüller & Partner. Markus Bauten speaks German and English.

During his professional career as tax advisor and auditor Mr Bauten focussed increasingly on topics relating to business consultancy.The background is his keen interest in business topics such as process optimisations, risk management and controlling.The combination of competences in both accounting and fiscal matters in connection with business know-how offers an outstanding basis for the company check-up, which was developed and successfully introduced into the market by Mr Bauten.

 Jan Seeger has a degree in business administration and is a certified EFFAS Financial Analyst (investmentanalyst/DVFA). He is the managing shareholder of RLT corporate finance solutions GmbH, Berlin.  He speaks German and English.

Mr Seeger specialises in the appraisal of companies, transaction consultancy as well as consultancy during the modelling of complex business models in connection with the drafting of business plans for finance and investment calculations.In this context he has supported over 200 appraisals as well as numerous transactions and planning projects.The focus of his activities lies with the transfer of business models into integrated planning calculations (IFP models), for which Mr Seeger has developed a tool.
