Growing together: Mexico firms join forces to develop custom external audit system

In an inspiring story of collaboration, Nyssen Consultores Asociados of Cuernavaca, initiated a collaborative project to develop a custom external audit system, to which all 11 of the MGI Mexico member firms contributed.

In particular, the Nyssen team has worked closely with members Zesati Contadores and Alberto Rocabert y Cía.

Jorge Rodríguez, Partner at Nyssen shares how the initiative came about:

“At Nyssen Consultores Asociados, we developed a system to manage Internal Control Models called SCIRA (Internal Control, Risk, and Audit System), which includes various modules—one of them being the Internal Audit module.

While reviewing how external audits were being managed, we noticed that several MGI Mexico firms had adopted external systems that came with high costs, were difficult to use, and lacked integration. So, we decided to create a dedicated module within SCIRA, for managing external audits, taking advantage of the platform we already had in place.”

Collaborative development

The module was originally developed for internal use within the firm. However, following discussions among MGI firms in Mexico, and a shared understanding of common challenges, the project was openend to all Mexican members.

This collaborative approach allowed for valuable input from across the network, enriching both the development process and the tool itself.

Ongoing engagement

With the help of Despacho Zesati, Nyssen developed a working prototype which was formally introduced at this year's MGI Mexico Annual Assembly - all member firms were invited to continue contributing ideas and suggestions. A detailed review session is currently being coordinated with Alberto Rocabert y Cía.

Cuauhtémoc Contreras, Parter, Zesati Contadores comments on the value of the new audit system:

"From our perspective, the SCIRA software developed by NYSSEN has the potential to become a highly valuable tool in supporting our external audit work.

The fact that it has been developed by a firm within our Network, with extensive experience, means we will have a tool tailored to our specific needs."

A shared goal for MGI Mexico firms

Andrea Pallas, MGI’s Regional Director for Latin America, concludes:

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our member firms identifying shared challenges and coming together to develop solutions that can be implemented across the network. This is one of the key benefits of being part of a community where open communication and collaboration are the norm. The commitment of our members and the strong bonds between the Mexican firms – and across  the Latin American region – are what make initiatives like this possible.”
