2019 Australasia Region meeting for accounting network members took place last month in Sydney, Australia
MGI Australasia, part of international accountancy network MGI Worldwide, held its annual Region meeting on 15-16 April 2019, in Sydney. The event attracted 34 delegates from across the region including Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra and Auckland, as well as our newest Melbourne member, Dobbyn + Carafa.
The meeting took place at the Westin hotel, located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD steps away from many iconic Sydney spots including Westfield’s Pitt Street Mall, Circular Quay, the Queen Victoria Building, the Royal Botanical Gardens and Sydney Art Gallery.
Strategic drivers
Matthew Moy, managing partner of our host firm, MGI Sydney, opened proceedings and Clive Bennett, MGI Worldwide CEO, provided delegates with an update on the opportunities, challenges and strategic direction of MGI Worldwide.
A highly credentialed main presenter, Deborah Truter, who is the principal of Creating Leaders, facilitated a “Success Your Way” workshop for most of the remainder of the day. Deborah’s world-class training and coaching interventions helped delegates examine their strategic direction and key business drivers and identify fundamental actions to position their firms competitively for the future.
Breakout sessions and group discussions
In a similar manner to last year, the National Executive split the technical sessions into smaller plenary-style groups allowing for a larger range of discussion topics.
Our sponsors also presented at varying times throughout the conference and a special thanks was extended particularly to our longstanding sponsors, MYOB as well as BGL and Accountancy Insurance for their ongoing alliance and to our new sponsors feeLink and ReceiptBank for their contribution and support.
Welcome to Dobbyn + Carafa member firm
Anthony Dobbyn, Anthony Carafa and Mathew Skelley from Dobbyn + Carafa attended the national conference for the first time as MGI Australasia’s new Melbourne firm and Anthony Dobbyn shared more about their firm and reason for joining the MGI family.
Closing remarks
We closed the conference with keynote speaker and world class elite athlete, Liz Ellis, who shared her personal experiences and learnings of who you need to be and do to achieve success in a highly entertaining and engaging keynote.
As always there was time to network and catch up with old friends and new. Particularly memorable were the evening events enjoying the company of friends and colleagues.
A big thank you to our hosts MGI Sydney and all those involved in the organisation of the 2019 MGI Australasian national conference.
